Texas Book Festival: Lit crawl

I had high hopes for the big experiment of this year’s festival – the Saturday night Lit Crawl. Modeled on the hugely successful Litquake in San Francisco, the idea is to move literary events out of the sedate world of bookstores or, in this case, the State Capitol, and out into bars.

I don’t have anything against the sedate world of the standard book event — I am a sedate guy myself — but I was hoping the East Austin bar scene would inject a hip, youthful vibe to the proceedings. Unfortunately, at the events I was able to sample, it felt more as if the bar scene simply became sedate for a few hours.
